Are you looking to buy or sell used Plasma Cutters?
Plasma cutting is a process that cuts through electrically conductive materials by means of an accelerated jet of hot plasma. Typical materials cut with a plasma torch include steel, Stainless steel, aluminum, brass and copper, although other conductive metals may be cut as well. Plasma cutting is often used in fabrication shops, automotive repair and restoration, industrial construction, and salvage and scrapping operations.
How a Plasma Cutter Works:
- Plasma Generation: Plasma is created when a gas (such as compressed air, oxygen, nitrogen, or argon) is ionized by an electrical arc generated between an electrode and the workpiece. The ionized gas becomes plasma, reaching extremely high temperatures, which allows it to melt the metal.
- Cutting Process: The plasma jet is then directed through a constricted nozzle, creating a fast, focused stream of high-temperature plasma that cuts through the metal. The molten metal is blown away by the gas, leaving a clean cut.
Components of Plasma Cutters
- Power Supply: Provides the electrical energy to create the plasma arc.
- Torch: Houses the nozzle and electrode, directing the plasma stream to the workpiece.
- Ground Clamp: Ensures the workpiece is part of the electrical circuit.
- Compressed Gas Supply: Often air, but other gases like oxygen or nitrogen can be used depending on the material.
Applications:
- Metal Fabrication: Cutting sheet metal, structural steel, and pipes.
- Automotive Repair: Cutting and shaping metal components for vehicles.
- Construction: Used in steel frame construction and repair.
- Art and Design: Creating intricate designs from metal plates.
